My New Kicks

These are my new Kangaroos shoes. I've wanted a pair for a long time and finally found some on sale. Jeremy makes fun of them relentlessly and says that I can keep change in the change pocket on the side. (For the record, it's NOT a change pocket.) Anyways, they make me happy and they are super comfortable and I just wanted to share my little bit of happiness with the world.

Check out this spider that was on our front step. It's flippin huge!!!! The thing was as long as my pointer finger. Anybody know what kind of spider it is?

Backcountry Camping

Last weekend I went backcountry camping with the guys in my cell group. Here are the pics!

Catching up on movies

I caught up on some older movies that I hadn't seen this weekend. On Friday while Jeremy was gone I watched Cinderella Man. It's too bad that the sight of Renee Zelwegger makes Jeremy physically ill because I think he would have enjoyed it. This is a fantastic movie and if you haven't seen it, you really need to. It's not a guy's movie or a girl's movie. I think it appeals to both genders. It shows a tremendous love between the main character and his wife and it also shows how hard this guy had to work to acheive great things. He goes from having everything, to having nothing, to pulling himself up again. Wow - it's fantastic!

On Sunday Jeremy and I watched War of the Worlds. It was great....up until the last fifteen minutes. I think they did a great job of setting up this story line and it was action packed. Then, the end turns very sloppy and lazy. The writers attempted to tie things up but failed to do so successfully. If you haven't seen it, it's worth it for the first hour and forty-five minutes, just bear through the end. Anyways, I had a nice relaxing weekend watching movies. It's been a long time since I've been able to do that.

Bear Attacks

I am doing some backcountry hiking this weekend. The guys in my cell group and I are going to hike about 4 miles and pitch our tents right in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. I did a little studying today on where we will be hiking and some of the rules and I came upon an interesting article I thought I would share...

What do I do if I See a Bear?
Bears in the park are wild and their behavior is sometimes unpredictable. Although extremely rare, attacks on humans have occurred, inflicting serious injuries and death. Treat bear encounters with extreme caution and follow these guidelines:

If you see a bear remain watchful. Do not approach it. If your presence causes the bear to change its behavior (stops feeding, changes its travel direction, watches you, etc.)—you’re too close. Being too close may promote aggressive behavior from the bear such as running toward you, making loud noises, or swatting the ground. The bear is demanding more space. Don’t run, but slowly back away, watching the bear. Try to increase the distance between you and the bear. The bear will probably do the same.

If a bear persistently follows or approaches you, without vocalizing, or paw swatting, try changing your direction. If the bear continues to follow you, stand your ground. If the bear gets closer, talk loudly or shout at it. Act aggressively and try to intimidate the bear. Act together as a group if you have companions. Make yourselves look as large as possible (for example, move to higher ground). Throw non-food objects such as rocks at the bear. Use a deterrent such as a stout stick. Don’t run and don't turn away from the bear. Don't leave food for the bear; this encourages further problems.

Can you guys see me? "Come on bear, now git, git bear, come on git!" I think I could handle myself nicely. I'll be bringing a broom to scare the bears away. Bring it on!

Learning How to Wakeboard

I have swallowed a lot of water this week, just like this last picture shows. Monday and today I went out with a friend who has a boat to learn how to wakeboard. Today he taught me how to move, I did not do very well. My next lesson is how to get from one side of the boat to the other side. I'm fine as long as I don't have to go over the wake...but what's the point of a WAKEboard if you don't move across the wake:-). It was fun and now I am sunburned and sore. I think I'm going to take some time to rest up before tomorrow's service. Enjoy the weekend!

Vacation 07

Jeremy and I are back from vacation. We had a really great time but we are very, very tired. On Friday we enjoyed tax-free weekend and went shopping. On Sat. morning we went horseback riding and then went to a stupid timeshare presentation. Then that evening we went to Gatlinburg and did the Skylift and played putt-putt. On Sun. morning we went to a local church and then spent the day w/The Banks who are camping outside of Gatlinburg. Today we went to Dollywood. We rode the roller coasters they have and the train and then left b/c it was EXTREMELY hot. We had a lot of fun and got to eat at great places. I think we need a vacation from vacation. Here are some pics. We got free hats so yeah, we look like dorks.

This is the creek by the Banks' campground that I played in w/Olivia. The way she is crouched in the creek reminds me of Gollum in the Two Towers, only Olivia is much much cuter.
